Wind-resistant variant

Armor Ball® AQUA — the 75 MPH water-ballasted ball cover

Armor Ball® AQUA water-ballasted covers on a large lined pond in an open, wind-exposed setting.

The physics

Mass from the water itself

Cross-section view at the waterline showing Armor Ball® covers floating low and self-filled with water ballast.
Waterline cross-section: each ball self-fills with water ballast, riding low and heavy.

Self-fills with ballast

Each ball draws in water ballast, going from ~50 g dry to ~275 g — anchoring the cover against wind without any external system.

Holds to 75 MPH

The added mass raises wind resistance to 75 MPH (120 km/h) — more than double the 35 MPH standard rating.

No liner penetration

No pumps, anchors, cables, or penetrations — nothing to engineer into the basin or maintain over time.

Fast to deploy

Ships in ~40 lb mesh bags; a 53-ft dry van unloads in about 1–2 hours.

Site assessment

Is your site too exposed for a standard ball cover?

If sustained winds regularly exceed 35 MPH, AQUA's water ballast keeps the cover in place. Tell us your location and exposure and we'll recommend the right cover.

FAQ

Armor Ball® AQUA questions, answered

What makes Armor Ball® AQUA wind-resistant?

Each Armor Ball® AQUA self-fills with water ballast, increasing its mass from about 50 g dry to roughly 275 g. That added weight raises wind resistance to 75 MPH (120 km/h) without pumps, anchors, cables, or liner penetration.

How is Armor Ball® AQUA different from standard Armor Ball®?

AQUA shares the same 100 mm UV-stabilized HDPE ball, 91% coverage, pH 2–13 resistance, and tool-free install, but adds self-filling water ballast that raises wind resistance from 35 MPH to 75 MPH. Buoyancy is about 5 lb/ft² water-ballasted and heating-cost reduction is up to ~75%.

Do I need pumps or anchors to ballast Armor Ball® AQUA?

No. The ballast is the water itself — each ball self-fills. There are no pumps, anchors, cables, or liner penetrations to engineer, install, or maintain.

How is Armor Ball® AQUA shipped and unloaded?

Armor Ball® AQUA ships in roughly 40 lb mesh bags; a full 53-ft dry van unloads in about 1–2 hours.

Is my site too exposed for standard Armor Ball®?

Standard Armor Ball® is rated for 35 MPH winds. If your site regularly exceeds that, step up to Armor Ball® AQUA (75 MPH). For even higher exposure, AWTT offers Hexprotect® AQUA / Rhombo Hexoshield® up to 130+ MPH.
